Biography
Whether executing a precision strike on cross-examination or applying a soft touch as needed, Lauren Caisman is an accomplished litigator and formidable advocate for her clients. With her trial experience, Lauren has gained a perceptive ability to examine a situation and deploy a successful strategy to achieve her clients’ goals in all aspects of commercial, biometric privacy, class action, and products liability litigation. Lauren has broad and substantive litigation experience in state and federal courts, arbitrations, and administrative agency proceedings, including in case development and strategy, pleadings and motion practice, written and oral discovery, court hearings, and appeals.
Lauren prides herself on her ability to play devil’s advocate, and clients find her knack of seeing around corners to anticipate problems and tackle solutions and arguments from all angles truly invaluable. Individual and corporate clients in the food, security services, manufacturing, healthcare, luxury goods, banking, and pharmaceutical industries count on Lauren to lead them through challenging situations ranging from claims involving breach of contract, trade secrets, negligence, unfair competition, interference with contract and prospective economic advantage, defamation, and other torts.
Lauren is experienced on biometric and genetic privacy issues, assisting clients with navigating significant class action litigation under the Illinois Biometric Information Privacy Act and Illinois Genetic Information Privacy Act, in addition to implementing biometric and genetic privacy-compliant policies and procedures for clients across the country and across all industries. Lauren has also helped clients in the media industry to resolve commercial and contractual disputes, as well as solve First Amendment and other content-related problems. She has represented content providers and distributors in defamation and privacy-related matters and has pursued access to government documents under the First Amendment, Freedom of Information Act, and other applicable laws.
Lauren is the Chair of the Federal Bar Association’s Younger Lawyers Division and member of the Federal Bar Association Board. Previously, Lauren has been a member of the Illinois State Bar Association’s Standing Committee on Women & the Law and on the Section Counsel for the ISBA’s Civil Practice and Procedure Section. Lauren also serves on BCLP’s Women’s Board and National Recruiting Committee and is the Recruiting Chair of BCLP’s Chicago office. Lauren is also a Junior Board Member for the British American Business Council-Chicago.
Before joining BCLP, Lauren represented Northwestern University as a member of the Bartlit Center Trial Team and served as an Associate Editor of the Northwestern University Law Review. She also completed a judicial externship in the chambers of Northern District of Illinois Bankruptcy Judge Susan Pierson Sonderby. Lauren is a Chicago native and avid Michigan Wolverine who enjoys golfing, reality television, and her Cavapoochon Steggy.

Experience
- After 2.5 week jury trial, obtained $17 million jury verdict ($13 million in compensatory damages and $4 million in punitive damages) for client based on claims of trade secret misappropriation, breach of contract, breach of fiduciary duty, breach of duty of loyalty, and intentional interference with prospective economic advantage and contract. Also obtained forensic inspection of defendants’ devices and monetary sanctions of more than $2.1 million because of defendants’ discovery abuses. Prevailed in defeating contract and employment-related counterclaims brought by one defendant.
- Secured a victory before the Illinois Pollution Control Board for a global manufacturing client against a State agency, obtaining an order that the state violated the Illinois Environmental Protection Act and must pay for cleanup costs.
- Represented international product manufacturer who was owed a quasi-royalty fee following the expiration of a supply contract. Successfully developed and executed strategy to prosecute action for breach of contract and defended manufacturer against counter-allegations of product defects. Pursued responsible party through arbitration, resulting in multi-million dollar recovery for client.
- Obtained dismissal with prejudice, under the Security Litigation Uniform Standards Act, of class claims for breach of contract and consumer fraud and deceptive practices, alleging injury from put options income strategy effectuated over online investment trading platform.
- Obtained summary judgment on multi-million dollar unjust enrichment claim brought against client for use of, and plaintiff’s provision of services related to, cloud-based distribution service for news content.
- Obtained early dismissal with prejudice of multi-million dollar wrongful death and personal injury claims against avionics manufacturer stemming from aircraft accident in the Republic of Congo.
