Biography
Randy Scherer is an experienced Associate within the firm’s Employee Benefits and Executive Compensation group, where he provides insightful counsel to public and private companies on a wide range of benefits and executive compensation matters. Randy frequently conducts due diligence in mergers and acquisitions and advises on employment benefits and compensation issues related to transactions. Additionally, he counsels clients on designing, drafting, and operating retirement plans, welfare plans, and fringe benefit plans, as well as strategies for structuring compensation arrangements for executives and other key employees in a manner that aligns with corporate goals and regulatory requirements. Randy’s ability to understand the nuanced legal landscape of employee benefits ensures that his clients receive tailored advice that supports their long-term business objectives.
Early Career and Experience
Randy’s journey with the firm began in 2018 as a Summer Associate in the St. Louis office, where he gained invaluable experience working alongside seasoned attorneys on complex benefits and compensation issues. This early exposure allowed him to develop a strong foundation in employee benefits law, which he continues to build upon as an Associate.
Before officially joining the firm, Randy also served as a Student Attorney with the Washington University Low Income Taxpayer Clinic. In this role, he provided legal assistance to low-income individuals, honing his skills in tax law and developing a deep understanding of the intersection between tax and benefits issues. His experience as a Summer Intern with the Office of the Colorado State Public Defender further broadened his legal perspective, providing him with a well-rounded approach to client advocacy and legal problem-solving.

Randy earned his Juris Doctor from Washington University School of Law, where he distinguished himself both academically and professionally. As a Staff Editor of the Washington University Jurisprudence Review, he contributed to the scholarly discussion on important legal issues, showcasing his analytical skills and commitment to legal scholarship.
