Biography

Martin Wilmsen is a partner in our Real Estate team in Frankfurt. His practice focuses on loan financing. He advises both borrowers and lenders in particular on financing with regard to real estate acquisition, refinancing and development. Furthermore, Martin Wilmsen advises on project financing and financing of public private partnerships (PPPs). In addition to his law degree, Martin also holds an MBA from the International Real Estate Business School (IREBS) at the University of Regensburg.

Prior to joining BCLP, Martin was counsel at another international law firm. He is also the founder of the German ESG Forum and has extensive experience in green and ESG-compliant financing.

Experience

  • *Advised BASF on the financing of the construction of offshore wind farm Hollandse Kust Zuid (HKZ).
  • *Advised VARTA AG on the issuance of promissory note loans (Schuldscheindarlehen) totaling EUR 250 million arranged by BayernLB, HSBC and UniCredit.
  • *Advised Aareal Bank AG on providing a EUR 360 million senior facility for the financing of an international retail property portfolio by Pradera European Retail Parks SCSp, advised by Pradera Europe Limited. The portfolio comprises a total of 17 retail properties in Germany, France and Poland with a total of over 400,000 sqm lettable area.
  • *Advised global investment firm Carlyle on its acquisition of 8 distribution logistics assets, located close to major urban hubs in Germany.
  • *Advised Landesbank Hessen-Thüringen Girozentrale (Helaba) on the financing of the purchase of the landmark office tower "Silberturm“ in Frankfurt am Main.
