Defense of class actions has been at the heart of BCLP’s litigation practice for more than 25 years, including defending class claims in antitrust, class consumer fraud, breach of warranty, contract, environmental tort and other regulatory claims against manufacturers, retailers, financial institutions and insurance carriers.

More than half of our San Francisco lawyers are litigators in a variety of specialties including financial services, retail, life sciences, manufacturing, real estate, technology and transportation.

We represent some of the largest financial institutions in the world in consumer class actions, mass actions, commercial disputes, secondary market disputes, and other consumer finance litigation.

San Francisco lawyers work with companies in a variety of industries and advise clients on how to comply with state and federal privacy, security and advertising laws, including representing clients before the Federal Trade Commission, and defending national class actions.

Our lawyers represent clients facing a broad range of environmental issues and challenges, including environmental litigation, strategic planning and stewardship. We also provide compliance counseling and counsel clients in enforcement actions involving the Clean Air Act, California Air District rules, California Air Resource Board regulations, California’s Proposition 65, California’s Green Chemistry Initiative and CERCLA.

The San Francisco banking team, as part of the firm’s 100-lawyer Banking and Finance Group, represents both lenders and borrowers in all types of financing transactions. Our experience includes regulatory and operational counsel to financial institutions as well as the structuring, negotiation, documentation and administration of a broad spectrum of syndicated and non-syndicated credit transactions.

We advise both classic fintech companies, and those companies that want to offer a financial service (e.g., large retailers, airlines and restaurant chains), on the wide spectrum of regulatory, corporate and litigation issues that they face.

For businesses invested in trademarks, patents and copyrights, BCLP's lawyers add significant value by creating and implementing intellectual property strategies to develop and protect the client’s intellectual property portfolio. Our IP lawyers handle a wide range of litigation and related USPTO proceedings, prepare and prosecute patent and trademark applications, and negotiate intellectual property licensing and other transactions.

Whether traditional media, new media or those who did not realize they were "media" at all, our San Francisco lawyers have broad experience helping clients navigate through the many legal issues confronting those who gather and disseminate information. Our team defends publishers, broadcasters, authors, artists, entertainers, content creators, game developers, websites, advertising agencies, entertainers and more in defamation, invasion of privacy and other content-related litigation. In addition, we provide pre-publication review, libel clearance and advertising clearance to traditional and Web-based publishers, broadcasters, advertising agencies, production companies and other content providers.

We have extensive experience handling high-stakes patent infringement litigation in many areas of science and engineering. As part of our firmwide group with more than 50 patent litigators, we have tried utility and design patent cases in well-known federal patent venues throughout the United States.

We provide the legal advice and business acumen retailers need to keep up with the changing legal environment. Our lawyers represent retailers in a wide range of legal matters including intellectual property protection and disputes, commercial agreements, licensing, trade regulation, employment litigation and counseling, product safety compliance, toxic chemical regulation (including California Prop 65), data protection and security, advertising, product labeling, and e-commerce issues.

We offer emerging companies and other privately held businesses, their shareholders, directors, officers and consultants a broad base of financing, transactional, licensing and business consulting services.

Our San Francisco team represents buyers, sellers, intermediaries and advisers in mergers, acquisitions, dispositions, tender offers, takeover planning, joint ventures, and spin-offs and other restructurings.
