Biography
Laurie Belony practices in the areas of litigation, with extensive experience in insurance litigation and arbitration defense, as well as employment and labor law.
Laurie's litigation practice includes extensive knowledge and experience with complex insurance matters related to coverage and fraud. She handles cases from pleading through discovery, motion practice, oral argument and bench trials. Laurie brings over 10 years of experience as a trial lawyer and included in her portfolio of complex matters is a $5.3 million insurance fraud suit which resulted in a complete defense verdict for a client in the automobile insurance industry.
Laurie's employment law practice includes assisting clients with a wide range of employment law issues including employment discrimination, wage and hour class actions, unemployment, workers’ compensation, and regulatory issues at the state and federal level, as well as fair employment practices. Laurie defends employers against individual and class action discrimination, harassment, and retaliation claims; and assists in state and federal wage and hour compliance and investigations. She frequently drafts independent contractor agreements, employment agreements, separation agreements, severance and settlement agreements, confidentiality agreements, non-competition agreements, polices on sexual harassment as well as employee handbooks and manuals. Laurie counsels employers on hiring policies, disability accommodation, FLSA, employee termination, and reduction-in-force issues to comply with federal and state employment laws. She also represents and counsels many of the firm’s pro bono clients in employment matters.
