Biography

Helen is a litigator practicing in the area of commercial disputes, including business-on-business contract disputes, as well as defense of consumer claims and product liability matters.  Helen has represented multiple tech clients in the defense of putative class actions involving data privacy claims.  Additionally, Helen regularly defends financial institutions against individual lawsuits involving claims of negligence, misrepresentation, fraud, breach of contract, and elder abuse, as well as statutory claims involving the Fair Credit Reporting Act, Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, Real Estate Settlement Procedures Act, and California’s Unfair Competition Law, to name a few.  She has also handled real estate litigation, both in the landlord/tenant and construction context.  And Helen has defended both tech and automotive clients against suits alleging violation of consumer protection and unfair business practices statutes in both California and Missouri.

In her product liability practice, Helen’s cases have ranged from mass actions involving pharmaceutical products, to complex environmental toxic tort cases, to high-dollar individual personal injury or wrongful death suits.  Helen has represented manufacturers of electrical chemicals, herbicides, pharmaceutical drugs and devices, hair dye, child safety seats, batteries, industrial component parts, and more.  She has also defended automotive-rental companies in personal injury actions in multiple jurisdictions, and has counseled a leading tech company relating to automotive issues.

During law school, in addition to serving as a summer associate with the firm in 2013, Helen also served as a senior editor of the Washington University Law Review and interned at the United States Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Missouri.  Helen began her practice in BCLP’s St. Louis office, and has practiced in its San Francisco office since 2019.

Experience

  • On behalf of national mortgage lending entity in California state court, obtained order granting motion to dismiss claims of breach of contract, negligence, and negligent misrepresentation, ultimately securing favorable settlement for the client.
  • On behalf of real estate development and construction company, secured complete dismissal multi-claim California state court litigation for lack of personal jurisdiction after successfully removing case to federal court.
  • Represented an online platform in putative California statewide class action asserting violation of pricing discrimination under California’s Unruh Civil Rights Act, and obtained order granting motion to dismiss for lack of personal jurisdiction.
  • Represented an online platform in a nationwide class action MDL involving claims related to a highly publicized data breach, and served on Defendants’ Liaison Counsel team.
  • Served on the briefing and appellate preservation team on behalf of large chemical manufacturing company in a number of cases, defending product liability claims before, during, and after trial.  
  • Successfully represented a child seat manufacturer in a number of state court actions involving allegations of design and warnings defects, including securing complete defense verdict at trial.
  • Successfully represented an automotive finance lender against multiple claims pursuant to state consumer protection statute, securing order granting partial summary judgment in favor of the auto lender and leading to favorable settlement of the case.
  • Handled defense of individual claims in arbitration relating to cryptocurrency exchange.
  • Represented licensor of office and coworking space in defense of individual claims.
