Edward J. Hejlek
Biography
Edward Hejlek concentrates his practice in the preparation and prosecution of patent applications, infringement analysis, and patent, trademark and trade secret licensing and has extensive experience in the fields of pharmaceuticals, life science technologies, secondary batteries, single crystal silicon and polymeric and composite materials.
Edward rejoined the firm in 2023 after a seven year sabbatical during which, in succession, he served as general counsel and took public two of the clients for whom he prepared and prosecuted extensive patent estates during his original tenure with the firm in the pharmaceutical and secondary battery fields, respectively. Other notable accomplishments include the successful prosecution and licensing of the famous Taxol anti-cancer drug process patents, which garnered more than $350 million for Florida State University in the late 1990s/early 2000s, representing one of the then most lucrative single technology licensing programs ever by a university. Additionally, he recently served as outside patent counsel to Ilypsa in connection with its patent portfolio and $420 million acquisition by a major pharmaceutical company.
Edward has lectured in numerous intellectual property seminars sponsored by the Bar Association of Metropolitan St. Louis and other organizations. He is also an adjunct professor of patent law at the Saint Louis University School of Law.
