We understand the legal and political landscape and have a deep understanding of doing business in Myanmar. This is critical when structuring clients’ investments, mitigating risk and ensuring regulatory compliance. In addition, members of the team have worked on the drafting of the proposed new Myanmar Companies Law and have been running seminars in Myanmar and overseas in preparation for its implementation. The process itself has been praised as one of the most open and comprehensive legislative reform processes in Myanmar to date and we will be undertaking ongoing capacity development work as the law is implemented.

We have been assisting foreign investors establish their presence in Myanmar since 2011 when Myanmar began on its road to a disciplined democracy. We have lived, breathe and shaped the investment law framework in Myanmar.

In recent weeks the Central Bank of Myanmar, the Ministry of Commerce and the Microfinance Business Supervisory Committee have introduced certain relief measures as a response to the economic effects of COVID-19. These include reductions in interest rates, an exemption of import licence fees for medicines and the classification of certain goods as “Essential Supplies”.
