Chicago Partner Mimi Moore was quoted April 3 in Modern Healthcare regarding the decision by some health care providers to furlough certain employees temporarily amid the coronavirus pandemic. Heeding state orders, hospitals are cutting back on lucrative, non-urgent procedures, like joint replacements and cataract surgery, to free up resources for COVID-19 patients. Moore, who practices in BCLP’s Employment & Labor Group, said health care providers are generally attempting to reassign clinicians to different areas with greater need. Very few are laying off their workers because most believe they will soon be needed again, she said. Moore added that this differs from other industries, where she’s seeing more layoffs.
