Firm Earns Perfect Score on HRC Corporate Equality Index 2022
Jan 27, 2022For the 15th year in a row, Bryan Cave Leighton Paisner has earned a perfect score of 100% on the Corporate Equality Index (CEI), the nation’s foremost benchmarking survey and report measuring corporate policies and practices related to lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer (LGBTQ) workplace equality, administered by the Human Rights Campaign Foundation. The perfect score also earns BCLP the designation as a “Best Place to Work for LGBTQ* Equality.”
“BCLP is steadfast in its commitment to increase diversity, to improve retention at every level of the firm and to put in place initiatives that execute on our goal. We are proud to once again earn a 100% ranking in this report, which is considered the gold standard in evaluating policies on LGBTQ* issues,” said BCLP Director of Inclusion & Diversity (US) Tommy Shi. “Last year, for example, we announced the appointment of Partner Daisy Reeves as the firm’s inaugural Inclusion & Diversity Client Relationship Partner. This is a first-of-its-kind role in the legal sector where Daisy will focus exclusively on collaboration and thought leadership with clients and communities on best, and next, practice in diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) across BCLP’s 30 international offices, in an effort to actively shift the needle on global inclusion.”
The 2022 CEI rated companies on detailed criteria falling under four central pillars: non-discrimination policies across business entities; equitable benefits for LGBTQ* workers and their families; supporting an inclusive culture; and corporate social responsibility. BCLP earned a 100% ranking and the designation as a “Best Place to Work for LGBTQ* Equality.”
“When the Human Rights Campaign Foundation created the Corporate Equality Index 20 years ago, we dreamed that LGBTQ* workers – from the factory floor to corporate headquarters, in big cities and small towns – could have access to the policies and benefits needed to thrive and live life authentically,” said Jay Brown, Human Rights Campaign senior vice president of programs, research and training. “We are proud that the Corporate Equality Index paved the way to that reality for countless LGBTQ* workers in America and abroad.”
A record-breaking 842 businesses earned 100% on the 2022 CEI and the designation of being a “Best Place to Work for LGBTQ* Equality.” In 2002, the first year of the CEI, only 13 companies achieved a top score, demonstrating how much the business world has changed over that time.
