BCLP advises RAW Charging on raising further growth capital
Jul 08, 2022Summary
International law firm BCLP has advised RAW Charging and its current shareholders on the successful raising of further growth capital to support its electric vehicle (EV) charger installation plan.
RAW Charging (RAW) is a leading and fast-growing supplier of electric vehicle charging points at many of the UK’s popular public destinations in the UK. Antin Infrastructure Partners (Antin), a leading private equity firm focused on infrastructure investments funded the raise.
With an estimated 45% of drivers needing to charge their EVs away from home, EV charging infrastructure is a valuable amenity in futureproofing work leisure and domestic locations across the country.
In order to meet the huge demand for public chargers, RAW is operating in the underserved, high-growth destination EV charging marketplace. The Company has established a network of EV charging infrastructure assets to enable EV drivers to charge their vehicles at their destinations, typically at workplace, leisure facility or transport hub carparks and targeting installation of 10,000 charging points in the next three years. RAW is expecting to have over 1,000 charging points operating by December 2022.
The BCLP team was led by Corporate Partner Jinal Shah, and included Corporate Partner Marie Johnson and Associate Jack Bickler from our Corporate team and Partner Mark Richards and Associate Rajesh Chavda from BCLP’s Energy, Environment & Infrastructure team.
Commenting on the deal, Jinal said: “We were delighted to support, alongside Longspur Capital, RAW Charging in its latest round of funding which will, in the context of the UK Government’s ambitious target of 300,000 public charge points by 2030, provide essential infrastructure for EV drivers to charge their vehicles at their destinations.”
Mark, who leads BCLP’s EMEA Energy, Environment & Infrastructure practice, added: “This is an important deal for the sector and we are delighted to support RAW Charging accelerate their growth plans. BCLP is committed to the zero emission vehicle sector, and as one of the founding sponsors of World EV Day, we recognize the scale of the investment opportunity for our clients.”
