Brussels Managing Partner Dave Anderson speaks at UN on global antitrust and sustainability
Jul 11, 2023BCLP Brussels Managing Partner Dave Anderson spoke at the UN during the annual meeting of ‘The Intergovernmental Group of Experts (IGE) on Competition Law and Policy’ on the intersection of antitrust law and sustainability on July 7 at the Palais des Nations in Geneva.
Hosted by the UN Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), the meeting comprises more than 100 nations from around the world working on international antitrust law and policy. Dave’s panel featured speakers from the OECD, the Japan Fair Trade Commission and Unilever.
Dave was invited by the UN to speak on the global “state of the debate” and private sector perspectives on how antitrust law can help and hinder public and private sector ESG goals concerning environmental and other sustainability policies. In his speech on the status of government agency initiatives around the world, Dave urged UN members to provide clear guidance to companies on their policies in this space while also advocating for global convergence among agencies to remove antitrust law obstacles to private sector sustainability initiatives. Dave also asked the UNCTAD to take up the issue as part of its upcoming 2023/24 workplan which received support from many key delegates at the conference.
Dave has been advising the UN on antitrust and competition issues for over 15 years as part of the firm’s effort to advocate for international best practices and private sector viewpoints on antitrust law within this important global body focussing on emerging economies across Asia, Africa and the Americas.
