BCLP Partner Speaks on the Impact of Parenthood on Legal Careers at American Bar Association
Feb 03, 2025BCLP Partner George Chen participated in a panel discussion at the 2025 American Bar Association (ABA) Midyear Meeting, exploring how parenthood and caregiving responsibilities shape legal careers. Hosted by the ABA’s Commission on Women in the Profession (CWP), the panel, “Impacts of Parenthood and Child Caregiving on Legal Careers,” addressed challenges that resonated with many— including the “caregiver penalty,” “maternal wall bias,” and “fatherhood stigmatization.”
Panelists examined findings from the ABA’s 2023 study Legal Careers of Parents and Child Caregivers and shared personal experiences, insights, and guidance on how to better support caregivers and continue to promote gender equity in the profession.
As a Commissioner on the ABA’s Commission on Women in the Profession, George continues to play an active role in advancing conversations that impact women lawyers and judges. The CWP serves as a catalyst for change, working to break down barriers and ensure the full and equal participation of women in the legal profession and justice system through mission-driven initiatives.
