BCLP partner elected to American Academy of Appellate Lawyers
Aug 17, 2022BCLP Partner Jean-Claude (JC) André, co-chair of the firm’s Appellate & Supreme Court Group, was elected a Fellow of the American Academy of Appellate Lawyers at the group’s recent Board of Directors meeting.
The American Academy of Appellate Lawyers was founded in 1990 to recognize outstanding appellate lawyers and promote the improvement of appellate advocacy and the administration of the appellate courts. Membership is open only to those with a reputation of recognized distinction as an appellate lawyer. Induction as a fellow of the academy is by invitation only, with invitations extended after nomination by two current fellows; careful consideration of appellate practice and accomplishments; an extensive vetting process that includes solicitation of input from appellate judges and justices, opposing counsel, co-counsel and current fellows from the region; and approval by the academy's Board of Directors.
JC has personally briefed or argued hundreds of distinct appeals before the U.S. Supreme Court, various U.S. Circuit Courts of Appeals, the California Supreme Court and the California Court of Appeal, including dozens of briefs and three arguments before the U.S. Supreme Court and over 100 briefs and 40 arguments before the Ninth Circuit. He regularly writes, speaks and teaches about the Supreme Court, Ninth Circuit and California appellate practice, and appellate advocacy generally.
