BCLP Associate Kurt Steinhouse recently authored a new chapter in the latest edition of the legal treatise, New York Zoning Law and Practice. This edition contains significant organizational changes and substantive updates for practitioners. Over the years, this treatise continues to be the most widely cited authority by courts and practitioners in the field of land use law in New York.

Chapter 12, “Zoning and Land Use in New York City,” in New York Zoning Law and Practice (5th Edition, 2024) focuses on the aspects of land use in New York City that make its regulatory environment unique from other municipalities in New York State with discussion of the various entities responsible for land use administration as well as overviews of the New York City Zoning Resolution, Uniform Land Use Review Procedure (ULURP), historic preservation, and City Environmental Quality Review (CEQR).

Kurt Steinhouse is an associate with the US Planning and Zoning practice in the firm’s New York office. He also serves as chair of the New York City Bar Association's Land Use Planning and Zoning Committee, and he formerly served as an adjunct professor at Columbia University's Graduate School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation as well as general counsel to the New York City Board of Standards and Appeals.
