Responsible and Sustainable Business is part of our culture. We view our business as part of the wider landscape in which society functions.
We are, and strive to be, a responsible and sustainable business that supports its clients, people, communities and environment. Our ESG Action Board provides a clear and progressive global strategy for the firm. This includes:
- Driving change and ensuring that the responsible and sustainable business commitments and priorities are understood by all members of the firm and are taken into account in firm activities and decisions as appropriate;
- Ensuring the firm has appropriate resources to execute the strategy; and
- Identifying opportunities for initiatives to promote responsible and sustainable business.
We have adopted a set of easily understood values that are integral to how we and our stakeholders think and make decisions.
THe four pillars of our strategy
Four pillars guide and enable us to deliver our strategy. We look at each in the context of three broad sets of stakeholders – our clients, our people and our communities.
We are an international law firm that represents the highest standards of legal provision across a broad spectrum of issues and which has the capacity to improve the way society functions. This reflects our core values to put our clients' interests first and use knowledge and innovation to deliver client solutions.
Clients say we are great listeners, solution builders and lateral thinkers. That’s what it means to be client intelligent. In that spirit, we are taking our time to understand how we can better support our clients and provide quality legal advice that supports their own ESG journeys.
We respect all of our people. We enable everyone to reach their full potential which reflects our core values to treat our colleagues as we do our best clients and bring a diversity and inclusion lens to every aspect of our work and culture.
Our clients are our key stakeholders. As legal services providers we form part of their supply chain. Therefore, its important we take the time to listen to and understand their views on environmental, social and governance challenges. We are solution builders and work in partnership with our clients on their ESG journeys.
We share our professional skills on a pro bono basis and commit to community engagement and philanthropic giving that makes a real and lasting difference. This reflects our core value to make a positive contribution to our communities and societies.
We continue to focus on increasing our pro bono involvement and hours, encouraging all our lawyers to get involved in our offices across the globe.
We are also continuing to collaborate with clients on pro bono projects and social mobility programs and to work on first-of-a-kind pro bono matters that impact the lives of those suffering social injustice.
We ensure our activities contribute to a more sustainable society, reflecting our core values.
We are continuing to identify activities in our operational footprint that contribute to environmental damage. We have been working with a third party to formulate carbon emission reduction targets, which will be submitted to the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) for verification. We are engaging with our suppliers to better understand their own environmental journeys, the aim of which is to partner with them as part of our strategy to reduce our Scope 3 emissions.
We are also working to improve the collection and quality of our data to enable us to produce more precise carbon emissions information.
