Biography
Through many years of helping clients across the country with complex construction projects, Steve Becker has developed a unique insight into the entirety of the construction process and the many twists and turns projects can take. His broad spectrum of experience allows him to effectively navigate complicated projects, negotiating and drafting all types of agreements. He has represented public and private companies in a variety of projects, including manufacturing plants, multi-family housing projects, and large multi-tenant retail complexes.
Steve's clients, whether domestic or international, come back to him repeatedly because they are confident in his ability to resolve any problems that arise and trust his skilled understanding of the many complications of construction projects.
In addition to his busy and active practice, Steve shares his experience and passion by mentoring other lawyers at the firm and is the chair of the Recruiting Committee in Kansas City.

- Industrial and Agricultural Plants – Pacific Coast, Colombia: Handle all aspects of EPC transaction concerning construction of a fully integrated sugarcane plantation, sugar mill, ethanol plant, and power plant.
- Wind Farm Development – Rock Port, Missouri: Represent wind farm developer regarding successful resolution of subcontractor mechanic’s liens and claims concerning substantial cost overruns.
- Resort Hotels and Water Parks – United States: Act as sole outside counsel to resort hotel and indoor water park operator regarding design and construction of facilities throughout the Country. Such representation includes preparation of form and transaction-specific agreements, providing options for procuring construction-related services, and leading negotiations of all types of construction-related agreements.
- Manufacturing Facility – Kelang Valley, Malaysia: Represent silicone wafer manufacture in connection with the conversion and expansion of an existing warehouse into a new manufacturing facility. Our services include counseling concerning project delivery options, as well as the preparation and negotiation an EPC contract and ancillary exhibits and agreements.
- Retail Stores and Distribution Centers – United States: Counsel and assist international retailing giant in modifying company-wide policies and overhauling form agreements concerning design and construction transactions. Provide on-going counsel regarding administration of, and disputes regarding, projects throughout the United States.
- Manufacturing Facilities – Bangalore, India and Changzhou, China: Represent United States based heavy equipment manufacturer in connection with design and construction of new manufacturing facilities in India and China.
- Manufacturing, Distribution and Office Projects – United States and International: Advise Fortune 500 company regarding design and construction matters for manufacturing, distribution and office projects throughout United States and in Mexico, Canada, China, and the Middle East. Our services include structuring, preparation and negotiation of general contracts, design-build agreements, design-services agreements, build-to-suit leases, as well as counseling concerning construction administration and disputes.
- Mixed-Use and Multi-Family Residential Projects – Manhattan, New York: Represent developer regarding structuring, documentation and negotiation of numerous design and construction-related agreements, construction administration issues and insurance matters for mixed use and residential projects, including a new 16 story mixed-use building on Manhattan’s lower east side.
- Retail and Entertainment Venue – Shanghai, China: Counsel leading toy manufacturer regarding design and construction of a toy showcase, retail and entertainment venue in Shanghai.

- Condominium Project – Riverdale, New York: Counsel developer regarding procurement of construction-related services and preparation of transactional documents in connection with design and construction of a twin-tower, single podium residential condominium building.
- Manufacturing Facility – Celaya, Mexico: Advise leading manufacturer of animal feed products regarding procurement of design and construction services on a design-build basis for a new manufacturing and processing facility.
- Historic Renovations Projects – Houston, Texas: Represent corporate developer regarding conversion of two office buildings to hotel, condominium and apartment facilities in downtown Houston. Our services include preparation and negotiation of construction management and design-build contracts, as well as other transactional documents, and project-related counseling.
